Success = Feeling good and working well! I teach in a high-need community with a focus on special education for seventh grade students. As a part of the enrichment program, students will take part in Practicing Power Pilates and will learn how to build core strength, manage a balanced diet,use health tips to make better meal choices and how to incorporate health and fitness into daily living without being bored or intimidated. The focus of the class will be Pilates but students will learn life skills and understand the correlation between feeling good about themselves and becoming more responsible academically. Simply put, when you feel good, you work well. Encouraging students to adapt a fitness routine through Pilates will enhance academic performance. ELA and math will be incorporated to chart progress, write about the change in physical-emotional make-up and generate dialog about health and self-esteem.
