Currently, teachers and students are having to address a revolving door of participants. Absences due to illnesses and exposure to illnesses vary in duration and severity. Oftentimes each of these unique situations require reteaching and remediation of skills missed while away. Teachers must develop a normalized and routine strategy and procedure that allows us to connect, educate students that are present in our classroom both physically and potentially virtually, as well as remediate those not in attendance once they return to school. The use of additional technology in my classroom will allow me to connect and interact with students that are not only physically present, but those joining us though the use of our technology. I would have the potential to open my classroom to students learning from home, to interact as if they were physically present in my classroom. All students would be able to contribute to classroom conversation and collaboration, stay current on learning objectives and assignments, as well as attempt to alleviate the negative social aspects and feelings of isolation by connecting with teachers and peers. Students would have the opportunity to return to school without the “mountain of catch-up work”, missed educational experiences (which can not be recreated), and the stress and anxiety that is associated with extended school absences. The iPad, Apple Pencil, headphones and other accessories being requested would also be extremely helpful in creating instructional videos for learners that are not able to connect during their class period in addition to students that may benefit from revisiting the learning material for better understanding or reteaching opportunities. Teachers are willing to work diligently for our stakeholders. These additional resources would be greatly beneficial and very much appreciated.
