My students are 6th graders, which makes the majority of them around 11 years old. Most are eligible to receive free or reduced lunches. We have also increased the amount of ESL students over the last couple of years. Students are needing more practice reading, but the formal language of a textbook is making that challenging especially in Social Studies. Getting them to read anything can sometimes be a challenge, but even my non readers seem interested in Current Events.
