My students are my HEROES!! They are brave, courageous and strong!--and I told them this many, many times these last three weeks. They are second graders who have had to experience what most would not have had to endure in a life time. After the tornado hit our school--and some children's homes--these children lost the only place of true security many had. They lost many personal possessions that were in their cubbies and desks. (You wouldn't believe the tears over a crayon box, pencils, scissors, etc.) They SAW their classroom literally ripped apart. They were then forced to go to a school most had never been in, sit in some other student's desk, and had to use supplies of other students they had never met. On top of that, the very first week they started this new routine, they had to take the state SAT10 test. But, the stress of the testing, sadness of their loss, fear of new surroundings, and simply anxiety of the unknown did NOT win! We cried, laughed, and conquered together!
