My classroom is very busy. While some students are building with magnetic blocks, others are pretending in dramatic play. There are students learning at tables, on the floor, watching newly hatched butterflies by the sink or making art projects. It’s hard to find a quiet place to read. I do send home books for nightly reading at home. But, I really want a better independent reading spot in our classroom. There is space near my classroom library that would be perfect for reading. As more students become independent readers the library is a popular center. The cozy couch also has space for a listening center. This gives students the opportunity to read along as well as reading independently.
