My students are between 5 and 7 years old. They are all students with special needs that are preventing them from being able to function in a general education classroom successfully at this point in their lives. My job is to prepare them academically, socially, and functionally to move into a general education setting, with or without support, as soon as they are ready. Most of the children come to me from special education preschools. They have disabilities ranging from mild learning disabilities to rare syndromes and autism. Our school environment is exceptionally accepting and nurturing towards the special needs community. We also have a Life Skills program and a Severe and Profound program in our building. We use peer tutors and include our special needs students in everything we possibly can.
