My high school is located in a high poverty agricultural community in central California. We have a large number of English language learners and I specifically teach chemistry classes for these ELD students. Despite a great deal of adversity, or perhaps because of it, my students are great kids who love to learn by doing things. Chemistry is a great subject for them because it gives them the opportunity to challenge themselves while getting to do labs and inquiry activities that foster real scientific curiosity, the sort of curiosity that is innate in many children but often becomes stultified with age.

About my class
