In the elementary school where I teach, we are the largest Title I elementary school in our county. The enrollment of my school consists of approximately 910 students, which includes kindergarten through 5th grade and an ethnic makeup of: 40% Caucasian, 31% Hispanic, 19% Black, 4% Asian, and 6% other. Our school community consists of a diverse population which includes single family homes, apartments, hotels, and multiple mobile home parks. We have a 29% ELL population. This diversity enhances the multicultural experiences of all students while at the same time presenting unique challenges for the rigorous nature of the curriculum. The staff at my school lives by the belief "Make Every Minute Count", which encompasses our commitment to providing an engaging and relevant education that prepares every student to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
