I teach high school science in an urban, public school Ninth Grade Center that serves an at-risk and high poverty student population, with over 70% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunches. Our school instills achievement through accelerated learning, striving for growth and accumulation of at least 12 credits in one school year. We offer an early college program in cooperation with our state community college and our high school students have the opportunity to earn the equivalent of an associate’s degree at graduation from high school. In addition, there are several other pathways for our students to engage in school and earn college certificates, degrees, and vocational training!
