My students are diverse in their abilities and backgrounds. They are mostly Hispanic/Latino and African-American. Many students love to come to school because it is their safe place. They come early, waiting for the routine and support the the school offers. They strive to learn and their commitment pushes me to find knew ways to engage them. My school is located in a struggling, urban setting. There are many concerns brought in from the neighborhood, however, we work hard to create a safe and welcoming community in our classroom and school.
