Biology is a mandatory freshman level course. The material they learn is quite difficult for such a young age, but most students find it fascinating. My students work very hard and ask thoughtful questions. Unfortunately for some, organization does not come naturally. It is a skill that must be learned, and it is absolutely necessary for this course. Some students see their grades suffer not because they are uninterested but because they cannot find their materials before studying for exams. To simply say, "Keep an organized binder," is meaningless. Students must be taught how to do this. Our school's general attitude is that all students be held to high standards. Teachers do not accept excuses from students such as, "I can't find it so I am not participating." I have great expectations of my students. I expect them to participate in every activity and be able to find their supplies quickly.
