My elementary school is located in Indiana. We are a Title One school with a high poverty rate. Our school system has faced budget cuts including technology. Many of my second grade students come to school without resources at home that support education. Our families are low income and many do not have access to computers. The computers in my classroom are outdated and do not work reliably. Next year in third grade, my students will need to take required state tests on the computer. These tests are timed. To be prepared for this testing, my students need to learn how to easily navigate and read on a computer. By giving my students this opportunity in second grade, they will be familiar with using technology and will be able to focus on the test content. This familiarity with technology will also aid their learning in years to come.
