I want my 3rd/4th autistic class of 7 boys and 1 girl to read with greater fluency and comprehension. They are challenged in the areas of language, cognitive, and social development. They attend a special education class on a public general education campus located in a high poverty community. My students love to read yet are 2 - 3 years below their benchmark. All of my students are visual and kinesthetic learners. After I teach the concept for the day, my students go to learning centers to reinforce learning and to complete independent work. This maximizes their learning as they reinforce reading and listening abilities. Being autistic they also have difficulties with language expression. Reading libraries give them a chance to listen to a narrator speak with proper annunciation and pace. Proper pace will increase their comprehension and understanding of content. I want every child to realize their full potential. Reading is the fundamental catalyst to a productive student.
