Each day I provide my students with opportunities to write during Language Arts and math centers. I have some students who come to me with no knowledge on how to hold a crayon or pencil. On the other end of the spectrum, I have students who come in well-prepared and can legibly write their first name and sometimes last name too. As of now, I have to use a regular table for the writing center. The materials are not left permanently due to students using this table for other activities in the early morning. My assistant must set the writing center up each day as I call students to the rug for circle time. I want to set the example for my students that writing is important and a permanent asset in their lives. If they had a designated area for their writing materials, they would be able to enter a well-stocked and inviting center where they are unlimited with writing possibilities. Students could even leave work in the area to finish the next day if they needed to.
