My intergraded preschool classroom supports a wide range of students, some of whom require individualized accomidations and support. For some of these learners, it is the first time they have been away from their primary caregiver. They often feel anxious, worried, and insecure as they begin to build new relationships with friends, teachers, and therapists. I have watched in awe as a child's body and mind calms, when they are "Hugged" by the security given from the weight and pressure of the vest. It allows the students to feel comfortable, promoting them to have a calm sense of self. This comfort fuels a strong foundation for exploring and learning.
