Working with these materials will provide my students with a valuable experience not many high school artists have. Students will be able to create glass jewelry, sculptures, and functional objects such as plates and bowls. The many different glass sheets will allow the students to choose the colors, textures, and styles of glass they want to work with. The glass cutters help students to score and cut the glass to create intricate designs. They will use the pliers to help break the glass where it is scored. This keeps the students safe and allows for more precise cuts. The fiber shelf paper lines the shelves of the kiln to prevent glass from melting onto the shelves and can also be used to emboss the glass with various designs as it melts. The slump molds will allow the students to create glass plates, trays, and bowls once they have learned the basics of fusing. Each of these materials will allow the students work to be uniquely theirs and distinctly different from their peers. When my students submit to art shows around Denver, they will be able to impress students, teachers, and artists from other schools with their glass creations. Having the glass materials to work with will excite students in my class and inspire other students who are not in the arts to join. When I have worked with these materials at other schools they were always considered the COOLEST and really helped students become interested in art.
