I teach Financial Planning and Accounting to a diverse group of high school juniors and seniors from Boston. Approximately 70% of the students come from low-income homes with little exposure to financial professionals. I strive to integrate exposure to professional careers, such as Accounting & Finance, as part of the course curriculum. We participate in the following local and national competitions to gain exposure to professional environments, The Stock Market Game and the PWC Business Case Challenge. When participating in these competitions, we lack adequate technology for research and analysis, which unfairly disadvantages the students. My students lack exposure to current technologies that would be beneficial to a financial curriculum. Tools like laptops and printers would benefit my students by allowing them portable access to business tools and common software technologies to aid in their research.
