More than 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. They come to a low-income Title 1 school everyday where resources are very limited. Some of our students are unable to purchase supplies and the school is only able to do so much with the budget they have. Our students strive to do their best with what they have. Most parents hold 2-3 jobs and are unable to be there for their kids, making library visits very rare. Some parents don't have IDs and are unable to check out books. Parents are unable to take them places and when it comes to introducing them to new topics they are unable to make connections due to their background knowledge. They are always eager to read new books but due to the limited amount that we have they are unable to read the books they should be reading such as chapter books.
