Manipulatives are a large part of our young children's learning. By giving the children an opportunity to discover, learn, and, manipulate toys we are supporting academic skills, fine motor skills, and social-emotional learning. Children at this age are learning how to communicate, share, take turns, and understand the meanings of friendships. By using manipulatives to play and build with each other the children are using language, fine motor to build, and social-emotional learning with their friends. At this age, academics are taught in a fun and inviting way getting the children excited about learning. They need movement and games to keep them engaged such as the letter and shape bean bags, the letter mat game, or anything they can build and knock down. Children get very excited about new learning materials in their classroom and will set the tone for a fun and exciting year of learning.
