I teach 5th grade social studies and non-fiction at a North Memphis middle school. Most of my students have come to my charter school from failing schools. The mission of my school is to prepare all students for the college of their choice. With kids coming in the 5th grade performing mostly at a 2nd or 3rd grade level, we work very hard to get kids caught up to grade level by the time they leave our school. Our students attend school for extended hours to make-up pre-requisite skills and to have more time on task. By high school, I want all my students to be able to compete for spots in any school.
