My students are primarily from underprivileged families who cannot afford to pay for music lessons or rental fees for instruments. The only opportunity they have to learn to play an instrument is at school. The administration is very, very generous with the amount of arts programs that are made available to the 1800 children in our school and the children thrive in these programs. One of these programs is chorus. There are over 120 children in each of 2 choruses that meet at 7AM twice a week! The children arrive well prepared and are very enthusiastic! The parental support is overwhelming- after all, the children need to be escorted to school in order to be on time for 7AM! In addition, the concerts are standing room only! Recently, I started a Little Kids Rock Modern Band program and the number of interested students is amazing! Everyone wants to play the guitar and be part of the band!
