My kindergarten children are creative, thoughtful, innovative, and extraordinary- every day. They are 5 and 6 year olds that inspire each other and the adults lucky enough to work with them everyday. In order to be completely responsive to these in a classroom setting, there needs to be space for a little "wiggle room". The children need to move, and should be nurtured in an environment that allows that- for every child. It is necessary and typical to have seated times during the school day (morning meeting, workshop, read aloud, etc.)- however it is not appropriate to expect complete stillness! When each child can carry/access a portable cushion throughout the day, they can wiggle, squirm, stretch, and learn!
