I currently teach general music classes at a public Title 1 elementary school. I serve approximately 580 students in grades 5K-5 with ninety-one percent receiving free or reduced lunch. There is not a budget for the music program. Funding for our music program must be provided by our PTA, grants, or donors. Students in grades 1-5 attend music class once a week for 45 minutes. Students in 5K attend music class once a week for 30 minutes. Students with disabilities are mainstreamed into general music classes. Many of our students do not have the privilege of taking private music or dance lessons. Their experience with music is limited to what they hear on the radio, on TV, in movies, and their experiences in our music classroom. My students enjoy music class. They are excited each week to see what is in store for them when they come to music class. One of their favorite activities is using our mallet instrume
