The students in my classroom are a dynamic blend both in their socioeconomic status and culture. With over 60% of my high school students receiving free or reduced lunch, not all of them have access to cutting-edge technology. Most families are concerned with meeting basic needs as opposed to improving performance in the classroom. My students are also very diverse with minorities making up over 60% of our population. English language learners are large part of these minorities. Because of this very diverse audience, my school must use innovative teaching methods with our students. These innovative techniques encourage students to work together and share with each other, creating a culture of acceptance and tolerance. The use of technology also helps to bridge the gaps in our very diverse student body. Technology provides a strong avenue for students to connect and work together, and my school district embraces technology and its growing role in education.
