This project would allow my students to start the year with some essential tools for organization and learning. The binders and pencil pouch will help students with organization as this is a skill that many of my middle school students lack and is important in life. The pencil pouches will store their pencil, sticky notes, and highlighter which are necessary tools for writing and being close readers which is required of them by the Common Core State Standards. We only having one pencil sharpener in our school that is centrally located in the teacher's room; having our own classroom sharpener would allow students to sharpen their pencil as needed and not have them lose time looking for a new pencil. The clip boards will allow students to get up and move around the room as they write or sit off in a quiet space. Because we use an interactive notebook, the scissors and glue sticks will allow for ease in getting the initial page set up in a timely fashion so that time on learning is not lost. The sticky note easel pad will provide students an opportunity to engage in academic conversations through silent discussions/chart chats and allow for them to be displayed for all to see.
Organization is the key to success. These tools allow my students to organize themselves and provide simple accommodations for students per their IEP. Though these tools are essential for school, many of my students can't afford to purchase the tools that are listed. With your help, I can provide students the necessary tools for learning to help them be ready and responsible.
