I teach 6th grade Reading in rural North Carolina. This school is in a high need area and the majority of our students come from low income homes. Our mission is that 100% of our students will go to college upon graduation. Our first three graduating classes have reached that goal! We are a public charter school, and there is no admission or test to gain admission into the school. The mission of our school is to empower all of our students with the skills, knowledge, and character necessary to succeed at the college of their choice, strengthen our community, and fight for social justice. Unfortunately, due to the current economic crisis in the United States and cut backs in funding, we as teachers don't have any funds to procure the supplies that could really enhance our student's education.
