I have the pleasure at teaching at the one of the only public urban all-girls schools in Michigan, in the heart of Detroit. My girls come from all over the city and bring their stories and struggles with them. They are goofy, curious, principled, hilarious, ornery, hard headed, affectionate young ladies. We have students from several diverse backgrounds, but a majority of our girls are from the African American and Bengali immigrant communities in Detroit. Many of my students do not have Internet access at home. Though they are supposed to receive Netbook personal computers, only half of my students will have them on a daily basis due to a number of reasons and barriers. I notice that often the scholars who do not have internet access at home or access to smart phones, computers, etc. on a daily basis are often falling behind their peers. Help them discover the great big exciting Latin American world!
