Half of this class of fourth graders used old donated iPads last year and showed a lot of growth in writing, creativity, and digital citizenship. The other half of the fourth grade went through two teachers and fell significantly behind. As a teacher librarian, I am working with the teachers to bring those kids up to grade level while providing opportunities for the other kids to continue to grow and share their expertise with technology. Our school is not poor enough to receive extra funding for technology nor is community support through our PTA enough to meet the growing need for up-to-date technology in the school. Our kids long to have the experience using technology daily to give them a variety of learning experiences, use their creativity, work collaboratively and share their learning with others. We are a school who has fallen through the cracks for technology funding.
