Our language arts classrooms have decided to put together a Reading Olympics. In our small community, we work hard, but sometimes reading gets brushed aside, so our language arts department decided to put together a program to get students to reboot their reading habits and find what they enjoy reading again. After scouring several lists, we have put together a group of 40 YA novels that middle graders can explore. Our students need to find their passion for reading again by being exposed to many different genres, as well as authors. Many students don't know what authors they like or what genre of writing they like! As the students complete the 40 novel book list, we want to provide prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each grade. Each book will have a comprehension quiz they students will take for a certain amount of points. The students with the most amount points at the end of the year will win the prizes.
