I teach a class of 25 energetic students at a rural, high poverty school in Washington State. We have a high population of bi-lingual and migrant students. For these students, math seems to be more universal in language, unlike reading. When given the appropriate materials, these students are able to understand and internalize the early math concepts being taught.
