I need a large library of books for my second grade students so they have books that are appropriate for their reading level. The books need to be high interest and cover different topics and genres. The core of everything in teaching is for the students to use the reading and writing strategies taught (through the use of books that cover a range of subjects) and to read focusing on details of text and the way that language makes a difference in the world. The students will make choices in their lives, now and when they are older, and the books will help them with a wide variety of topics so they aren't hindered by their reading levels. By reading large volumes of books on different topics, the students will have confidence that they can tackle any reading task they might encounter. The students are matched to books that represent the high end of their ability and will allow them to move through the books at different rates. The trade books are designed with 21st Century Global Standards in mind and are based on years of research and curriculum development when working with groups of students.
