Reflection... remembrance... friendship... nostalgia-- how often do we wish we had more time for these in our lives? Every year, I offer my 8th graders a chance to reflect on their time at our charter school through scrapbooking. Students create pages for a class scrapbook that remains at the school for future students to peruse-- and for alumni to return to to relive their memories of field trips, projects, inside jokes, and the community we've built together. I teach 6-8 graders in a student-centered, inquiry based charter school. We're small, but we're powerful-- that's my unofficial motto. We empower kids to take responsibility for their actions through an all-day, every day social curriculum. Reflecting and celebrating our lives at school is part of that social curriculum-- and these scrapbooks have become a tradition at our school. We've done them for 6 years so far.
