I have a class of 17 active second graders that love playing games. In my classroom the main focus is learning with a twist of fun. With a focus on student self-motivation, whole group teaching time is minimal, and students use a majority of their time exploring and discovering concepts in small groups. If I have to make the games myself my students always have a new game to play relating to the skill/s being taught. My students also love stories of all kinds, especially nonfiction. They are highly interested in learning about things that happen in real life and to real people. Most recently we have been discovering biographies and the students are loving every minute of it. My students love learning about the world around them and nonfiction stories help them achieve this.
