Coming from a Title I school, it is critical for my students to get their hands on engaging and relevant reading material that is appropriate for their grade level. Having Storyworks, Scholastic News, and Science Spin magazines would give my students access to reading materials that would give them the productive struggle that they need to become better readers. Also, these magazines would help them with responding to texts both verbally and in written form. By doing so, they will also be able to strengthen their speaking, listening and writing skills which are equally important skills not only in third grade, but in life as well. Using these magazines in my classroom would greatly help my students become stronger readers and writers and, therefore, lead to their academic success.
