My expectations are very high for my students. I expect them to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, and be able to explain and defend their answers with facts. Our students need a chance to be exposed and understand the basic principles of science. Currently, I am teaching a third grade classroom with approximately 28 students. 95% of my students receive free lunch meal. Half of my student population is comprised of English Language Learners. With this in mind, I want to create an opportunity for all students to learn by doing. To understand an abstract concept, one must be exposed to hands on activities. When a child remembers the activity, he/she can connect the experience to the concept at hand. Also, I want to integrate literacy within the science concepts so that all students have a better knowledge base with a classroom library set.
