My students will be learning about the 4 bases of DNA, how DNA is transcribed and translated and how DNA works to determine our traits. But what exactly is DNA? These necklaces allow students to experiment like a 'real' scientist, using test tubes and chemicals to extract their own DNA. These kits allow students to bring their DNA home with them, enclosed in a small vial. As students go from class to class throughout the school day and then home, they proudly wear their necklaces explaining to fellow students, teachers and their families what they did to extract it and why DNA is important. This lab really brings science out of the lab and into students' every day life.
