Most, if not all students, live in this low income, urban area and are new to the U.S. Students are typically economically dis-advantaged and come from struggling households. Historically our school was a typical inner-city school with low scores and plagued with all the problems associated with inner-city schools, including low performance, poor attitudes and little respect. In the last few years however, a major change has taken place due to the efforts of administrators and staff. It is as if an entirely different school exists, as students have improved performance dramatically. Students wear uniforms and are held accountable for each days performance. Test scores have risen and the schools designation has been upgraded. Discipline problems have greatly decreased and a culture of respect and proper behavior now exists that didn't previously. As things have improved, students now see the reality of their long term situations improving as well, and make greater effort to do better.
