The astronomy students I teach are mostly eleventh and twelfth grade students who chose this class as an elective. Students have a wide range of backgrounds. Some students are enrolled in calculus; others find math a challenge. Some students are very involved in athletics. It is exciting to teach students with different interests and strengths, but it can also be a challenge to teach in a way that keeps each student engaged. What might be a challenge to one student might be too simple for another. I try to provide choices to students in order to differentiate and to encourage students to learn and demonstrate understanding in a way that is interesting and meaningful to them.
