My third grade students are independent, motivated learners. I have fostered through a structured environment, a group of students that support one another in their independent journeys towards achievement. They live in one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, yet when they come to school they are learners. We all contribute to the support and encouragement of everyone in the room. My students have had limited experience with using technology independently, and yet it is one of the most exciting areas for them to explore. They see technology used everywhere and advertised on television, and yet the concept of ever having an iPad in their hands isn't a reality to most of them. Technology is like anew toy for them, yet I know that everything on them is supporting their educational growth and enrichment. It's a strong tool to get my students to achieve a higher level of success than ever before.
