My students are gifted and general education 5th grade students in the city of Chicago. The makeup of our student body is 97% low income and 30% limited English learners. Chicago Public Schools is in the middle of a budget crisis and last year closed 50 schools in the district. Teachers often have to provide supplies like paper and pencils for their students so more expensive supplies, like enrichment materials, are out of reach.
