I teach at a full Title 1, bilingual campus with nearly 2/3 of our students considered at-risk. Our students are low-performing in math and science on state assessments. Moreover, our population is very transient (for a variety of reasons - financial, military, job, etc.) so gaps in background knowledge and academic achievement are common. By providing high-level engineering & problem-solving activities in STEM disciplines, we can level the playing field for our students and help them to be more academically successful and better prepared for global market. Our principal & staff are very eager to expose our student to the engineering process and enrich their experiences in STEM fields, but we lack the resources to accomplish this goal. This funding would help to provide the materials necessary to implement innovative ideas and equip students with the tools necessary to achieve their dreams.
