I am a K-2nd Special Education teacher in a high needs school. Because of where my school is located, every child is eligible for free school lunch. My typical student comes to me not being able to identify their letters or letter sounds and they know less than 10 sight words. Most of my students have an academic disability as well as a speech disability. As a result of their disabilities as well as many coming from tough home situations, they are generally well behind their same aged peers. That said, these children truly are special. They want to learn. They want to read. They just needs more help than the average child. They are worth every minute and every dollar.
