My students are hard working, fun-loving, and oh-so-fun to teach! I am truly lucky to work with them. The vast majority come from working class families. They are struggling readers and live in economically depressed areas of the city where gangs run rampant. Our school is a Title 1 school. Over 90% of the students participate in the free and reduced lunch program. Sadly, it is not uncommon for my students to have parents incarcerated or unable to parent. However, our school works very hard to overcome these issues. Students wear uniforms and participate in many after school sports and activities. They join clubs, band, drama, and other extra curricular activities. We have a very active ASB that plans and organizes a myriad of school-wide events that promote unity and school spirit. We focus on instructional strategies that work and we teach our students to overcome. This is a great place to go to school and a fantastic place to work. I am fortunate to work with these great kids!
