My school is a suburban middle school located in Central Florida. It is a traditional middle school of approximately 750 7th and 8th grade students. I teach 8th grade Comprehensive Science 3 and Advanced Comprehensive Science 3 to approximately 110 students in 5 class periods. Due to state-wide budget cuts our district recently reduced their annual budget by $42 million for the 2011-2011 school year; the third major cut in three years. Teachers have not had raises since 2008 and our healthcare costs have continued to rise. In spite of this, our test scores have continuted to imporove and our teahcers are on the cutting edge of teaching strategies and developing curriculum. We continue to reach into our own pockets for funds to make sure our students have the best instruction possible!
