Reading and math are core subject areas in many educational settings. Instead of teaching them in isolation, currently, I am focusing on meshing these two worlds together. Our first grade classroom is in dire need of a math library to help students see these concepts be brought to life on the pages of a picture book.
Before the common core standards, I told my young students that they were all college material. These standards stress that students should be solving problems based on real life situations. The books in the requested math library speak to this standard exposing children to problems and concepts in math on a kid friendly level. With the use of the document camera, I will be giving my students even more access, as they will take ownership for learning how to use newly developed technological tools in our ever changing world.
These books will be shared first as a read aloud throughout the year. As students hear hear text, they will then be able to go on and read the books on their own, expanding on the literature through higher order thinking questions and hands on tasks. Your generous donation will allow students to have access to the resources that will set them on a path towards college.
