I teach math at a high school on the Navajo Indian Reservation in the high desert area of northwest New Mexico. Our school has 320 students. Our community is very poor and our high school has a 100% free and reduced price lunch program. Our school has been losing a lot of its programs due to funding issues. We have lost our band program, woodshop, tech lab, track and field program and even key math/science teachers positions have not been rehired when a teacher leaves. There are also few clubs here at our school -- only about 4 or 5. I am hoping to give the students one more positive outlet for any student who would want join us by playing ping pong during lunch by starting a ping pong club.
