My students are wonderful, bright and curious 2nd. graders who live in a large urban city in Illinois. Our school is 98% free lunch. Students come from low income homes that don't always have computers to explore ideas and the world. My students don't have much opportunity to see outside of their neighborhood. Our school attendance is very high, students never want to miss a day of school. For them, school is their safety-zone, their place to explore, learn and have fun. Over the past 4 years our school has successfully improve our test scores with rigorous units based in Reading Literacy, Math, Science and Social Studies all combined with critical thinking skills and group work.
