The students that attend my high school are students who have been unsuccessful in their first school. There are 250 students. They are at-risk youth between the ages of 16-21. 99% of the student population qualify for Chicago's free lunch program, which means they are either homeless or come from a home that makes well under a livable salary. It is a big challenge for the staff to motivate our students to come to school and keep them off the streets. The supplies at our school are very limited and the teachers do their best to encourage and motivate the students to get a proper education. Many of my students come to this school as a last chance to get their high school diploma. We have many students that were kicked out of their last school. They realized the necessity of obtaining at least a secondary education.
