Last school year it was evident that kids were suffering from a lack of connection with their peers and social-emotional stimulation. This school year I want to give students a new opportunity to develop these skills. The resources I am asking to fund will be used during morning work time and our literacy block. Using these new resources, students will have the opportunity during our morning breakfast time or as an "I'm done now what task" to choose from a variety of hands-on building activities. They will have the opportunity to utilize these activities with a partner or small grouping of students in order to provide time for socializing, teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking. Some of these activities include logic games like Chess, building activities with pipes, magnets, and brain flakes. Additionally, there are puzzles and other collaborative activities. I have also added books to help students develop a growth mindset in order to set the tone for a positive school year and a variety of texts that are culturally relevant to my students! My hope is that students develop their social-emotional skills through positive thinking, relationship building, collaboration, and critical thinking.
