My classroom is made up of a diverse group of students. About 1/4 of my class this year come from military homes, where a parent may be deployed anywhere from 6 to 9 months at a time. Approximately 1/3 of my students live in a single parent home, and these families are often limited in the amount of time they have to spend together. Many of them are experiencing a structured educational setting for the first time. They have started this school year eager and ready to learn. My students are like little sponges soaking up knowledge all around them.
